Background & founding story

Experience

De Ruyter Group was founded by Greg DeRuyter to fill a gap he observed repeatedly: landowners approached by energy developers had attorneys and accountants, but no one helping them understand the business and financial dimensions of what they were being asked to sign.

Founder, De Ruyter Group

Greg DeRuyter has spent his career at the intersection of energy development and land. Before founding De Ruyter Group, he worked extensively in the utility-scale energy sector — gaining direct experience with how developers structure proposals, how projects are financed, and how lease terms are negotiated from the developer's side of the table.

That experience gave him a clear view of what landowners typically don't know when they receive a proposal — and how much that gap can cost them over the life of a 30- or 40-year agreement. De Ruyter Group was built to close that gap.

Greg works exclusively for landowners. He does not represent developers, does not broker transactions, and does not receive compensation from any party other than the property owner. That independence is the foundation of the firm's value.

"Landowners deserve the same quality of business analysis that developers bring to every negotiation."

Why De Ruyter Group exists

Battery storage is one of the fastest-growing segments of the energy industry. Developers are approaching agricultural landowners across the country with proposals that can look straightforward on the surface — a rent payment, a lease term, a signature.

But the details matter enormously. Escalation rates, capacity expansion provisions, decommissioning obligations, assignment rights and dozens of other terms can make the difference between an agreement that serves the landowner well and one that doesn't — for decades.

De Ruyter Group exists to help landowners understand those details before they commit. Not to replace their attorney or CPA, but to make sure the business and financial issues are clearly identified and organized so every advisor can do their job effectively.
